2019 saw a record number of sales in low emission vehicles. This surge in sales has resulted in an all-time high market share of 7.4%.
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) experienced the biggest growth with a 144% increase to 37,850 units. This came alongside the 17.1% increase in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) to 97,850 units, dominating the low emission vehicle sector.
Despite these increases, the BEV market share only sits at 1.6%. Therefore, they are still far below the 50-70% share the Government are hoping for by the end of the decade.
