What is the biggest perceived challenge of our time? Vattenfall says climate change

Vattenfall’s new report states that the public believe climate change is the biggest challenge of our time.

Participants from Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France and the UK came together to discuss their emotions on climate change.

As a result of the survey, it was found that over one third of the participants believe climate change is the main issue facing us currently. Furthermore, 40% reported feelings of anxiety due to this challenge.

In addition, the report also analysed media coverage on this subject. They found that the media focus on the severity of climate change which leads to negative feelings. Moreover, further investigation found a great deal of media coverage highlights the visible effects that climate change is having on the world now.

Despite this, it was also found that initiatives slowing down climate change and developments through authorities are also given a lot of coverage as well. This presents a more positive feeling.

Nevertheless, the amount of negative stories on this subject are of a greater volume than positive stories. Therefore, participants stated they’re more likely to share these negative stories. Additionally, they felt the negative news made them feel powerless in the battle against climate change.
