Calls for UK to remain in European International Energy Market
and the UK’s integration in the European internal energy market (IEM), will be important for the UK and the EU27 post-Brexit. Released on Wednesday 10 May, the think tank’s report said that strong UK–EU27 energy cooperation could help ensure that existing and future interconnectors are used as efficiently as possible, and would also be key for the UK in developing rules and regulations on nuclear safety and safeguards after the UK leaves Euratom. The best way to achieve this co-operation was identified as the creation of a “robust new pan-European energy partnership”: an enlarged European Energy Union. In particular, such a partnership could offer a useful platform for aligning EU policies with third countries like Norway and Switzerland. Read full article here
