The day had a celebratory feel to it, helping mark TEC’s 30th anniversary. Six workshops, led by TEC Framework partners, TEC members and independent experts, explored key energy themes and topics affecting the higher education sector.

Our Managing Director, Adam Clarke, welcomed everyone in before welcoming our first session for the day.
Our Head of Trading, Duncan Wyatt, kicked off the day with an Energy Market Update where he explored rising energy prices and how geopolitical risks are creating short-term and future challenges as well as providing insights on immediate and long-term energy price risks.
Our first round of breakout sessions were led by Peter Darke and Scott Collins from EDF, Avery Chong from Lancaster University and Wave Utilities.
Professor Andrew Shepherd (left) from Northumbria University was the first out of our two keynote speakers and presented “Earth’s Ice from Space”. He showed us how much the planets cryosphere has changed over the past 50 years and the impacts that come with that as well as how this shapes the future.
Our second keynote speaker Martin Roger-Fagg (right) is a Behavioural Economist, provided intriguing and entertaining insights into global macroeconomic trends. He delved into forecasts, UK demographics, why the housing market will boom again and issues & impacts unique to the UK.
Our second round of breakout sessions were led by Sam Moore from South West Net Zero Hub, Roger Martin-Fagg, and George Catto (kWIQly) & Gethin Lewis (Royal College of Music)
Led by our Head of Carbon Reduction, John Brenton, a Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Working Group meeting also took place.
Led by John Brenton, our final session was a panel session featuring Avery Chong, Tom Yearley from UPP Ltd and Noel McSweeney from the University of Greenwich.
The session started with a presentation from Noel McSweeney, Building Services Manager at the University of Greenwich who discussed the implementation of air source heat pumps and their Heat Decarbonisation Project.
This was followed by a panel discussion, which included contributions from Avery Chong and Tom Yearley, fostering engaging conversations around heat decarbonisation.
