UK wind generation hits new record

Some good news for renewable energy, Friday 8th February broke the previous record which showed wind generate 15.3GW of energy compared to 15GW generated in December. Renewable energy continues to grow! Although with large scale projects such as HS2, looking for long term renewable power purchase agreements as the least risky and most cost-effective way of meeting the massive power demands. Continued investment is needed.

Announced by RenewableUK on Twitter, the record was broken between 12:15 and 13:40, resulting in wind providing 36% of the UK’s electricity at that time. That’s over a third! The cause? The UK was hit by Storm Erik on Friday 8 February, bringing wind speeds of up to 70mph.
