The UK’s first climate friendly flight took off!
The first ever test flight for an electric aircraft on a commercial scale took place on 22nd June 2020.
The successful flight has resulted in the 6-seat battery electric plane becoming the largest zero emission aircraft to currently fly within Europe.
This plane has been developed under the HyFlyer project which is funded by the government. Eventually, the plane is expected to complete a final test journey of between 250-300 miles within the UK. Interestingly, this project has seen many new green transport developments such as the electric drive train. To further this, the project are looking to develop a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain along with powering a 19-seat hydrogen run aircraft that will be used for commercial purposes by 2023.
