Rolls Royce lead the largest national engineering collaboration in the UK

There is an ever growing demand on the energy sector to provide more power at a lower cost with less of an environmental impact. Rolls Royce believe they have found a solution.

Small Modular Reactors (SMR).

The Rolls Royce led consortium is the largest national engineering collaboration in the UK.

They’re developing a new SMR concept that can be shipped and constructed throughout the UK. This will be developed using recognised nuclear standards enabling certainty regarding the costs and timeline of construction. These factors will lower the price of electricity for consumers as the construction costs become more predictable and affordable.

They expect to have this plan rolled out by 2029.

The complete structures will take up less space than normal nuclear power plants and electricity prices will rival renewable sources. Therefore, this will open up this source of energy to markets who previously may not have been able to afford it.

In addition to this, the innovative project it predicted to play a leading role in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Rolls Royce report more on this development here.
