Renewables capacity added at record rate in 2015

A new report has said that last year saw a record level of renewables capacity installed around the world. Issued on Wednesday 1 June, the Global Status Report by REN21 said around 147GW of renewables power capacity was added last year, while renewables heat capacity rose by 38GWth. Global renewables investment also climbed to a new record level, in spite of falling fossil fuel prices, the strength of the US dollar, the continued weakness of the European economy, and further declines in the per units costs of solar and wind. The report further showed that employment in the renewables sector increased last year to around 8.1mn jobs.
