John has worked in the field of carbon reduction for over twenty years, after working as a university researcher in industrial safety. Starting in sustainable transport, he then moved to a consultancy helping organisations to improve their energy efficiency, tackle fuel poverty and install renewables. There he designed some of the UK’s first carbon action plans for local authorities and third-sector organisations. Since then, he has worked at the University of Bristol on a variety of behavioural, control and infrastructure projects aimed at reducing the carbon impact of the University, and has contributed data and expertise to academic research on carbon reduction and smart grid solutions.
