Welcome to TEC’s monthly round-up. In this month’s edition we will be reviewing activity across the month of November.
TEC Conference 2024
The value of knowledge sharing and showcasing energy and decarbonisation success stories were key focuses of TEC’s Conference 2024.
Representatives from Universities, Colleges the GLAM sector and industry professionals came together at Conference Aston to learn more about the energy and economic outlook, decarbonisation and water and energy management.
Thank you once again to our fantastic speakers, our supporters and Framework suppliers and of course our Member’s, it was great to connect face-to-face, share best practices, and explore new ideas together.

30 Years of TEC
This year we’re excited to celebrate 30 years of TEC!
Founded in 1994 as an offshoot of the Association University Directors of Estates (AUDE) by Birmingham & Warwick University, TEC started with just 6 institutions. Today, three decades later we’re proud to have grown to over 170 Members!
Keep an eye on our socials over the coming weeks where we will showcase our achievements and milestones over the years.
Energy Savings Awards 2024
We’re pleased to announce that our partner, Energy Assets, has been shortlisted for this year’s Energy Saving Awards, taking place in London on Friday, 6th December. They are contenders for the “Energy Management System of the Year” award.
Their nomination showcases their innovative “AMR DNA”, powered by kWIQly service, which is revolutionising energy management through AI and machine learning. Offering real-time insights, AMR DNA helps reduce waste, lower costs, and support sustainability goals. Its partnership with TEC has been particularly impactful in the Higher Education sector.
For example, one TEC member has leveraged AMR DNA, powered by kWIQly, to identify inefficiencies, such as heating an unoccupied building, enabling immediate action and helping the university progress toward reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 95% by 2030. Many other TEC members have also benefited from Energy Assets’ expertise, reducing energy waste and driving sustainability improvements across their estates.
Member Spotlight: Aberystwyth University
Aberystwyth University has been a leading light on carbon reduction in the higher education sector. Over the past 10 years the University has reduced its CO2 emissions by 40%. Central to this has been an investment of £2.9 million in a solar array which supports the institution’s target to meet 25% of its electricity consumption through renewables by 2030.
We met with Dewi Day, the University’s Environmental and Sustainability Advisor, to find out more about the Aberystwyth’s decarbonisation journey.
