EV sales are predicted to grow despite the struggling auto industry

The sale of electric vehicles (EV) worldwide are predicted to grow in 2020. This is in spite of the hit the auto industry has seen due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) states that EV sales are expected to top the auto industry sales this year. Reaching more than 2.3 million sales in 2020 would result in over 10 million EVs on the road.

Further to this, EV sales through Europe saw over 145,000 sales in the first quarter of 2020. Despite the rise in Europe, China saw a 60% drop in sales in February compared to February 2019. America also saw a drop to only 10,000 sales in April 2020.

In addition to these figures, the report also looks to the government for a response in ensuring the continued growth of the EV industry. Furthermore, the report continues that subsidies, recharging infrastructure and support measures will help boost the market.
